Marshall Point Lighthouse & Museum Temporary Closure
Due to severe damage sustained during the back-to-back destructive storms in January 2024, the Marshall Point Lighthouse walkway has been deemed unsafe and will undergo necessary structural repairs.
For the safety of our visitors and workers, the lighthouse grounds and museum will be closed to the public from May 19 until approximately the third week of June while the repairs are completed.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to restore this historic landmark.
The Restoration Plan
We’re proud to share that J.B. Leslie Co. of South Berwick, Maine, a highly respected Historic Restoration Contractor with extensive lighthouse restoration experience, has been awarded the contract for the repairs. Their expertise ensures that the walkway will be restored with the utmost care and respect for its historical integrity.
From Tom Hanks to Tidal Tales…our walkway is part of Maine’s Story. Be a part of its future with a donation to our Capital Campaign.
The Marshall Point Lighthouse & Museum Committee has launched a Capital Fundraising Campaign to raise $150,000 to cover the full cost of repairs. While the town of St. George has applied for FEMA assistance, the timeline and commitment remain uncertain. To kick off this effort, the Committee has contributed $10,000 of its own funds. Now, we need you to help us raise the rest.
The Marshall Point Lighthouse—made famous in Forrest Gump—is a beacon not just to sailors, but to all who cherish coastal Maine’s history and beauty. We invite you to help us preserve it.
Donations can also be mailed to: Marshall Point Lighthouse, Attn: Walkway Repair, PO Box 247, Port Clyde, ME 04855. Should federal aid be received in the future, all donations will be used for continued maintenance of the Lighthouse & Museum campus, including painting the Keeper’s House and replacing rotted wooden gutters and trim. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All contributions are tax-deductible. Thank you for supporting the preservation of this iconic site.
